(Formerly quadecim) A quantity of fourteen, evolved into quindecim due to the practice of adding one extra making fifteen. Half a quindecim is customarily seven. (Ch II)

A forward or frivolous girl. (Ch III)

handspan

Equal to about three inches or seven and one half centimeters. Three hundred eighty-five handspans are equal to about 100 feet. (Ch. IV)

Colees

M. Rootbeard was under the impression that Coleopteran was the correct name for the order to which butterflies belonged. An attempt was made to change the name to Lepidopteran, but it was resisted by the public and eventually the Homunculi Colea came to be known by the popular diminutive, Colees. (Ch IV)
